Making My Mark

With only the sleeve left to hand sew on, I'm noticing my energy for this quilt is cooling fast - in fact, I hardly like it today. Suddenly the main focal square seems much too large and over powering and I want to add more quilt onto the left side. I'm interested in how quickly my perceptions can change. I've had this happen before and I usually do resume liking what I've made, but perhaps there's something I could learn. If I explore further with this, I realize that the quilt is needing to expand - push it's edges out further and become larger. I've decided to call this 'Making My Mark' and doesn't expansion go hand in hand with that? Pushing my growth edge. It's the first quilt I've coloured and stitched without any commercial fabric and the style feels like my own. Parts of it are unquilted, there are ragged edges and even a few loose edges, so it's non-conforming - like me. I think I do like it after all... :)

Good morning Yvonne,
Thanks for posting the finished quilt and your musings. I'd love to see the quilting up close.
Isn't it wonderful to learn and grow, every day?
I hope your Pfaff is behaving and that the lesson helped. My ancient Pfaff(circa 1980) always behaved but it was a little fussy with threads - would not sew with those cotton wrapped polyesters at all (from my clothing sewing time).
I look forward to your next quilt exploration.

Hi Laura,
I'm planning to put this quilt into a show within a week that will be on downtown for about 3 weeks starting February 7th on the third floor of the Bay Centre. I hope you will be able to come and see it! The lesson with the Pfaff was a little disappointing - it had begun to work fine the night before and we weren't able to really troubleshoot much since it was running well. I liked the teacher but she wasn't familiar with my particular Pfaff and was learning what features it had from the manual, along with me. I may go back again at some point once I try out more of the features and have questions.

I will be there to see your quilt in the show. I'll leave myself a note on my calendar so it does not slip my mind.
I am crossing my fingers hoping your machine continues to work well.
I do enjoy your blog.

Thanks, Laura for letting me know you enjoy my blog! It's different to write to a potentially unknown audience - not like emailing, where I know exactly who I'm sending to. Unless someone comments, I don't know if anyone reads my blog. So I do appreciate comments! I'm glad you'll come to the show.
