Smalls Made Last Fall

A little Christmas gift I made.
And a brooch for me from wool I dyed.
I could imagine this might wash up on the beach,
so I called it 'Sea Fruit'.

Taking it Further

 'Incubation' found its form.

And 'Spot Dancer' emerged next - trying out new moves with solid felt.
'Hydra' was a gift I gave-
protecting the treasure of a creative hearthstone.

Felt Feutre Fashion and Finishing

The sold out Felt Feutre fashion show was incredibly inspiring, as were the lectures I attended by Andrea Graham and Marjolean Dallinga.  My next 3 day 'Advanced Experimental' felting workshop was with Marjolean and what a journey that was.  We worked in silence without interrupting our process with any photos and really felt into our making without knowing where it was going, working back and forth between three different sculptures.  Marjolein makes costumes for the Cirque du Soleil and one of her pieces in the fashion show took a month of full days to complete.  Her mastery and method of teaching brought to mind the Nancy Crow workshop I took a few years ago - another steep learning curve, for me.  Although I worked hard, I did not quite finish my 3 sculptures but really felt I had made a huge leap in understanding how to move into 3D - and I was excited to explore further, once home!

'Embodied' is a combination of two of the sculptures I made in the class, with the addition of some stuffed velvet I dyed.
Here is a view from a different angle.
'Mood Rock' is the other sculpture I began in Marjolean's class and then completed fulling at home.  The shrinkage is always amazing to me - what starts out as large becomes compact and relatively small.  I was eager to start exploring and learning further.

Felt Feutre - Last September

Okay, so this is a different type of fiber than you expect to see here, but this to-die-for Quinoa Pudding at the Harbour House Hotel's restaurant fortified me for my first day of a Vessel making workshop with Andrea Graham.  She is extremely knowledgeable and helpful and there was a lot of information to take in and sampling to try!
The workshop was held at ArtSpring over the course of two days and many other workshops were also taking place over the course of the week, as well as a fabulous Contemporary Canadian Felt Exhibition, lectures, trunk shows, a fibre shop and a felt fashion show.  The whole event was an incredible feat thanks to the creator Fiona Duthie and many volunteers.
I arrived with an idea to make a fish bowl, which I modified in order to include as many techniques as I could.
This is the back of 'Fish Catcher' and I was delighted to have dipped my toes into the learning.
