Counting Snowflakes and Stitches

While our class was inside exploring stitches on different guages of painted canvas yesterday, the environment outside began to change colour...
With the strong wind painting the asphalt

and tires creating a line design.

Staying within the little boxes of the canvas feels restrictive, even as I know the value of trying new things and am learning how the technique might be used in novel ways.
Maybe I'm going inside the box to get out of the box?

Like that "going inside the box to get out of the box"! That last photograph simply has to become a piece. It's marvelous...very graphic.

i understand your feelings about the canvas. the wheels would be turning in my head and i would veer off in another direction, but you'll have time to do that later. i, too, love that last pic.

Great tire tracks picture!

have you seen how Tilleke Schwarz combines traditional cross-stitch with free hand stitching?

It's also possible to work a free form line through the grid...

Cheers, Kristin

Thanks Penny, Deanna and Kristin - yes, that tire tracks photo may inspire something one day. Kristin, thanks for the link - I'll check it out. And I'm all for free form :)
