Taking Off

After the quilt top I'm designing morphed several more times, it is finally taking off, like the quail in the top photo did when I startled it on my walk, today! The quilt top has become much smaller and less jumbled and I've started hand quilting it. The bottom photo is one of the versions I made yesterday, thinking I would triple it, but when I explored that, the design didn't hold my interest.

Hi Yvonne,
Are these purple strips some you sewed up at the Nancy Crow workshop or did you pick them after your inspiration for the piece?
Are you liking the way the thread moves through all these solid colour broadcloths?
Looking forward to seeing this one in person!

All the purple I've added is after the workshop - the pastel yellow, peach and pink stripes were part of some strip pieced fabric I made up in the workshop and cut to put in this piece. The fabrics are regular cotton, and while the needle moves well through them, with the addition of the quilt sandwich, I see batting coming out along with the needle - nothing much, but I don't like the fuzzies. I'm using 3 strands of DMC embroidery thread to quilt and the thickness and texture of that may be why this is happening. All grist for the learning mill!
