Gift

This is a gift I'm making that I will probably add dark borders to, sandwich and quilt. I've been wanting to play with stripes and this was my opportunity! At first I had planned to alternate directions of stripe consistently, but I found instead that varying the directions and size of the striped patches was more interesting. I also have deliberately not matched stripes while sewing or cut them so that they are perfectly straight. To me, this feels more alive and creates a bit of movement and unpredictability.

Hi Yvonne
I love your play with stripes. My eye is drawn to the stripes rather than the central motif (not sure if that was your intention). I will be interested to see how adding a dark border impacts how my eye moves around the piece.

Thanks for your feedback, Laura - and I do want more of the focus to be on the horses, so I've added a lighter value of couched yarn around them which I think looks better. What do you think?

That did the trick! Fascinating. I was also thinking you could have quilted part of the manes out into the dark border.

Yes, I had thought of quilting the manes into the border as well as quilting the rest of it, but I chose to keep it simple as my intention was to make a decorative wall hanging leaning more towards 'craft' then I usually do - the focus being on Laurel Birch's horses.
