Show and Tell

Today I was at the opening of a group show I'm part of, at Satin Moon Quilt Shop. Here is Maya Brouwer with one of her lovely pieces:

I was also to the opening of the Fibres at the Hill show a few days ago, put on by the Vancouver Island Surface Design Association, which was a real pleasure to see, as was visiting with so many familiar faces.

Here I've used Japanese Maple leaves to add colour to this scarf I plan to nuno felt.

And I have started to make nuno pre-felts to build a palette to use in further work. This is some sari silk I got somewhere that really ran alot in the process. You can see the wool fibres have worked through the silk.

Show Day

I had fun at the opening of my art quilt group's show at Satin Moon Quilt Shop today, which is where I saw these flowers with their incredible colour. It was great to see everyone's work! And I've got my stitched fibre piece ready for class tomorrow, when we will post them up, to see and discuss each other's work.
Here is a back view, which has its own appeal.
Tomorrow we will be learning more stitches.

More Greening

If this was a swirl of ribbons, I'd be using them in my stitch piece! I'm having to dig deeper into my stash to locate more varieties of green. We are to have several fabrics coloured with our colour of choice for our next class. I painted cheesecloth (top left) and next to it is felt and below are two close ups of cotton that I dyed with two different greens. I was hoping for a bit more contrast and may add some later. I do like the patterning on the cotton, though.
Tomorrow I will be part of a show opening at Satin Moon Quilt shop, along with the other members in my art quilt group. I've put four pieces in this year and expect a fun time looking at everyone's work.

Show Time Again!

My art quilt group show opened today at Satin Moon Quilt Shop and will continue through November. I enjoyed seeing everyone and their pieces! I've also started buying solid coloured fabrics for the Nancy Crow workshop I will attend next spring - these sample snippets against the folded fabrics remind me of crayons. I have alot more colours to snip and tape so that I can keep the sample on hand if I find more solids to potentially add to the stash, since I don't want to duplicate.

Artist Date to Satin Moon Quilt Shop

I thought I might get to experimenting with piecing today, but a book I have on beading called my name and suddenly I was imagining doing a densely stitched, textural beaded piece in a frame. I have a gold frame sitting empty and a good spot on a wall to hang it, so I cut timtex to size and a base of yellow velvet, then added stitching, chiffon, angelina, yarns and thread. It doesn't look like much yet but I will add to it and hope it grows into a lovely bloom like these magnolias. The mandala of fabrics are ones I found at Satin Moon today - what a great store. I had planned to go to a bead shop but ran out of time since there was so much to look at!
