I have been thinking about crossing edges - how that can happen with light
and shadow
and lead to a break through
and growth.
To face the blank canvas or void and to use line, shape, colour and texture to form a world pushes my edge and that's what I'm calling this one. There are ten different silk fabrics and fibres along with the wool.

SPAC Show Entries
I am delighted that 'No Guts, No Glory' won a Juror's Choice Award at this past weekend's Saanich Peninsula Arts and Crafts Society show!
'Tropical Dreams' is a combination of nuno and wet felting, and is now spoken for.
'Wind Over Water' combines my dyed felt in a patchwork effect.
'Spring In My Step' is a response to the joy I felt with spring's light, colour, and promise of increased growth.
And I thought you might like to see how felt I've dyed changes and shrinks once sculpted into
'Lily of the Sea' - and that large piece was less than half of what I used! There is a lot of
unpredictability and surprise in felting, which keeps the process very alive.

More Brooches and Catch Up
I decided to keep this one and wore it with a nuno scarf I made while selling in the SPAC show's gift shop.
I paired some silk I had indigo dyed with wool for added texture in this brooch and the two below.
And 'Catch of the Day' was in the Small Expressions show earlier this year.

Broaching Brooches
The Saanich Peninsula Arts and Crafts Society exhibition and sale is this weekend at the Mary Winspear Centre, and I have put in a variety of felted sculptures, wall hangings, brooches and cards. I began the brooch above using felt I had dyed and some petals I cut from wool I had previously felted, attaching them lightly with a felting needle before wet felting together, adding a center bead,
cutting a leather backing, then attaching a pin back to it, and finally putting both halves together.
Here is another piece of felt I shibori dyed, then cut to make several brooches,
including this one and the ones in the last two photos below.
This one didn't make it to the show before it sold!

Spring Show-ers
'Abracandabra' was recently in the 'Small Expressions' show at the Tulista Gallery.
'Spring Dreams' was juried into the 'Bloom' show at the Coast Collective Gallery that also had fabulous floral arrangements inspired by some of the art pieces on display.
I've used silk fabric along with the wool, in this one,
and the bright colours rising from the white base made me think of spring flowers poking through the snow and how welcome colour is!
