I awoke this morning with an image floating in my mind from a dream of what to try next with indigo and here it is after the dipping. I will be working further with this once it's dry.
And I got a vat that I'd used to dye with blue glue gel resist up and running again, so I dipped a few more:
Words, patterning or any drawing is now possible - although the vat does exhaust quickly so I will continue trying other resist methods as well - but I am able to get it back to a useable state.
And another experiment - masking tape! The patterns all showed up but it works best when the tape is on both sides, as it was with the bottom piece.
I will keep wondering along...

i look forward to everyone of your posts. can't wait to see what you come up with next. it all looks fabulous.
I agree with Deanna..I can hardly wait to see your results...you are a true inspiration. Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart
masking tape for a resist - you're brilliant. Are you getting any REM sleep at all? Keep it up ... what next? mashed potatoes?
Chimo,
Jennifer
I've used masking tape as a resist before - isn't it great? Very quick compared with stitching - though you can combine the two - see http://flextiles.wordpress.com/2011/07/23/indigo-dyeing-in-a-jar/
Have you tried using batik wax as a resist instead of glue gel? I haven't used this, but one of my fellow students has, and it doesn't seem to affect the vat.

Deanna - oh the pressure to produce :) Thanks and glad you're enjoying it!
Mary Helen - thank you and I'm glad if you are inspired!
Jennifer - I wake nearly every night and can't sleep for a few hours - maybe I should do a double dipping shift... Mashed potatoes - you've give me an idea!
Kim - I went to your blog and you really went for it with the tape - with added stitch, too. Interesting to combine them the way you did. I haven't used wax with the indigo but I have used it with other dyes and plan to try it.
That’s splendid! I’d love to see what other patterns you could create out of the masking tapes. Perhaps you could cut them in circles, and make them look like snowballs or snowflakes in the dark? That would be perfect for you blue thirst. Cheers!
